Mark Your Calendar for GreenFest
Howard County is making it easy to be green (cue Kermit the Frog here) with their annual GreenFest held on Friday, April 5. GreenFest is a one stop event to learn about going green and to take part in green activities. The event itself is power with green energy. This year’s them is Water Quality Begins at Home.
You can bring items like old jeans that will be turned into turn into insulation. Last year over 100 hundred pairs were collected. Old eye glasses, cell phones, bikes and sewing machines can be brought to be recycled or donated. Items are also collected for Good Will. There is also a shredding truck. (See my earlier post on what to save or shred to learn what needs to be shredded.)
Other GreenFest activities include;
- Green crafts and nature activities in a play space just for the children.
- A mini farmers market will be on site with the sale of plants native to Maryland.
- Rain Barrel workshops.
- Local vendors with information on green and sustainable products.
This year Howard County is offering county residents the opportunity to get a free rain barrel. The rain collection barrel comes with all the parts to put the barrel together at home. Sign up for your free rain barrel here. (Only 50 available!)
GreenFest will be held on the campus of Howard County Community College at the Burrill Galleria and Quad from 10am to 4pm on April 5th, 2014. For more information got to the Howard County Government website.
