HoCo Drug Take Back Success and Permanent Boxes
HC DrugFree and Howard County Police partnered on Saturday, April 11 for Drug Take Back Day and collected 838 pounds of over-the-counter and prescription medications at the nine collection sites throughout the County. They also collected 6 large bags of needles, syringes and EpiPens.
The Howard County Police Department and HC DrugFree are partnering to provide permanent medication disposal boxes.
The first 3 boxes available for year-round use are at the Northern District Station (3410 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City), Southern District Station (11226 Scaggsville Road, Laurel), and the Gary Arthur Community Center (2400 Route 97, Cooksville). While some drugs can be tossed in the trash, you never know what is safe for the environment.
The FDA provides guidelines but the easiest and safest way to get rid of unwanted drugs (prescription or otherwise) is to find a Community Drug Take Back. Well if you live in Howard County, you are in luck for this Saturday, April 11th they are having a Drug Take Back Day. Times of collections are 10am to 2pm. What they will take:
- Prescription drugs (controlled and non-controlled)
- Unwanted or expired prescription and
- any over-the counter medications
- Needles, syringes and EpiPens will also be accepted at the Wilde Lake location ONLY
