Corn Mazes, Petting Zoos and Hayrides…OH MY!

As October begins in Howard County, Maryland, the area farms are open and inviting the public in to find pumpkins, traverse through Corn Mazes and to take a Hayride.  They also offer other fun fall activities such as scarecrow stuffing, petting zoos and spooky Halloween adventures plus most offer a County Store with organic or locally made items and food.  Here is a list of some fun 2012 Fall activities currently available.  If you know of something I’ve missed, please let me know and also feel free to share your experience at any of these Howard County Farms.

 

Clarks’s Elioak Farm on Rt. 108 in Ellicott City near Centennial Lane is Open 7 days a week from 10am until 4pm until November 6th.  They have Cow Train Rides, a Petting Farm, Hayrides and a Tree Maze along with a Country Store with grass fed beef, lamb and pork.  They will have “pumpkin chucking” the first weekend of November.

Sharp’s at Waterford Farm on Jennings Chapel Rd in Brookeville is open 10am to 5pm every weekend through Nov 4th.  Sharp is a 530 acre working farm in western Howard County.  They have Educational Programs, tons of pumpkins, hayrides and a Country Store with fall decorations from the farm, and have jams, jellies, local honey, apples, cider, crafts, mums, fall vegetables and more.  You can observe bee hives, make a scarecrow, or do the 10 acre educational corn maze

Larriland Farm on Woodbine Road in Woodbine in the western portion of Howard County is open from 9am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday.  The farm offers a straw maze, boo barn and hayrides and plenty of ‘pick your own’ produce all year but currently offers pumpkins, apples and fall vegetables.  Evening Hayrides can include a campfire but call or check their Web under Fall Festival.

The Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum is offering again this year a 3 mile Haunted Hayride on Friday and Saturdays from 7pm to 10pm during October.  They are located across from the Howard County Fair Grounds and the cost is $15 per person and benefits the Farm Heritage Museum.  Kids 8 years older are suggested and area groups/folks can volunteer to help out with the event 1 night or several.

TLV Tree Farm is located on Triadelphia Mill Rd in Glenelg and is open weekends after Oct. 6th from 10am to 6pm.  They have a corn maze, hayrides a hay maze, scarecrow workshops and a rubber-ducky races.  You can pick your own Christmas Tree here too.
