Summer has flown by and it is hard to believe that classes begin in Howard County on August 25. I thought it was a good time to take a look at some of the area High Schools.
Mt. Hebron High School, located on Old Frederick Road in Ellicott City started out as a junior high school in 1965. In 1969 it was changed to a high school when Patapsco Middle School. The student capacity of the school is 1400. The building has been renovated a few times; the last renovation took place in 2011.
The School has a nationally ranked academic program. Mount Hebron is ranked 13th in Maryland and 439th in the nation for academics. According to the schools statistics, 74% of the students go on to graduate from 4 year colleges. The school’s Economics program is of particular note. Their team won the Maryland state Economics Challenge in 2010, 2011, and 2014. Mt. The school has a number of athletic programs. The fall season includes soccer, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, and volley ball. Sign up for fall sports program takes place on August 11th in school cafeteria from 4pm to 5:30pm. Students must have had a recent medical exam. Parent must also sign a concussion permission form. Students must undergo an impact concussion test before being allow to participate in sports.
