Columbia, Maryland Ranks High As Bicycle Friendly Community
Columbia, Maryland was recently recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. Awarded with the Bicycle Friendly Community Bronze Award, Columbia joins the ranks of Maryland, previously noted as one of the best states in the region to bike, according to the League of American Bicyclists.
The award touted both Columbia Association and the Howard County Government for its miles of bicycle networks, bike-to-work events, bicycle-friendly laws, and an up-to-date bike plan that is being implemented. Columbia is now home to a more comprehensive, inter-connected and safer overall system for bicyclists. Newly developed plans have provided new on- and off-road bike lanes & pathways, additional way-finding signs, the widening of highly used pathways, and even a smart phone app for Columbia pathway routes.
Columbia joins other Maryland communities in being awarded as Bicycle Friendly Communities, including Salisbury, Rockville, Hagerstown, Bethesda, Frederick and Baltimore.
