Helping Ellicott City Flood Victims
Helping Ellicott City Flood Victims
Wondering how, where, when you can help? We’re all rallying around historic Ellicott City. Read on to find out how you can help now . . . and in the days to come.
As our Ellicott City office of Long & Foster discussed ways we could help the Ellicott City flood victims, I nodded in agreement as our manager echoed what I know is true . . . that we live in a community who rallies around those in need.
Like so many, we in the Ellicott City branch of Long & Foster are rallying to support. So many of us are asking and wondering what we can do to help. At this time, due to the instability of walkways, roadways and buildings, there is little many of us can do right now on Main Street; yet there are other immediate ways we can help, listed below.
Organizations which are handling the immediate relief efforts have been thankfully overwhelmed with requests to help. They are asking us to be patient as they sort through the needs amidst a multi-faceted relief effort.
As with any tragedy, it will be important for us to continue to respond . . . to stay engaged . . . and to help . . . after the immediate relief efforts have concluded. There will be rebuilding, refurbishing, mold remediation and such.
For now, there are immediate ways to help. We shall stay tuned, and I will update via this blog, on ways we can continue to help.
The Ellicott City Partnership is looking for donations and volunteers. Within 48 hours, they received 4000 offers of services and volunteers. They are asking for our patience as they navigate what is needed. For now, here are ways you can assist:
Donate to residents and merchants and stay tuned on volunteer needs through the Ellicott City Partnership.
Offer food donations to The Community Action Council/Howard County Food Bank. They are looking for the following items and are accepting donations from 8:30-4:00 pm, Monday through Friday:
- High protein canned meals with pop tops (ravioli, spaghetti, soups)
- Single serve, ready to eat breakfast, snack or energy bars
- Paper plates, napkins, plastic forks and spoons
- Toiletries
- Diapers and baby food products
- Water
- Can openers
Additionally, Howard High School will be collecting food donations from 4-7 pm on Monday, August 8th.
Stay tuned here on my blog as well as HelpEllicottCity.com and the related Facebook page about ways we can continue to help, as this will be a long rebuilding and recovery process. Please join me and my Long and Foster colleagues as we rally around our historic Ellicott City neighbors.
