Ever wonder about the history of fireworks on the 4th of July?
According to historians, President John Adams envisioned fireworks as a part of our nation’s Independence D
ay commemorations. In fact, before the Declaration of Independence was even signed, he wrote on July 3, 1776 (in a letter to Abigail Adams): that the occasion should be commemorated “with pomp and parade . . . games, sports, bells . . . bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more.”
I think we’ve done a pretty good job of carrying out John Adams’ wishes, eh?
