Howard County Homes range from condos and townhomes in the mid $100,000 to $400,000 and up to single family homes ranging from just under $400,000 to the $2,000,000 and up. Over the past couple of years, many Active Adult or Fifty-Five plus (55+) neighborhoods have developed in the form of condos, townhomes and single family homes.

Howard County, Maryland has a great mix of old and new that includes historical Ellicott City, Elkridge and Savage in the east, sprawling farm land in the west and a nice mix of neighborhoods along with the model city of Columbia in the center. Howard County has been listed as one of the most affluent and educated communities in the US. The quality of life is evidentby the award winning schools, a strong and active Parks and Recreational program, thriving arts community, and active citizens that take pride in their neighborhood. Money Magazine reported that Ellicott City and Columbia are "One of the Best Places to Live".

Interesting facts about Howard County, Maryland
Howard County, Maryland is located about 15 miles west of Baltimore and about 30 miles north of Washington DC.

Howard County, Maryland was originally part of Anne Arundel County and was designated Howard in honor of the 5th Governor of Maryland, John Eager Howard. Howard became the 21st county of Maryland with Ellicott City its county seat.

Ellicott City, Maryland was established in 1772 as a flour mill by three Quaker brothers of Bucks County, PA. The brothers convinced the farmers in central Maryland to farm wheat instead of tobacco to assist them with their mill operations. Ellicott City became of the first stops for The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad outside Baltimore and the train station now stands as a National Historical Landmark. Many parts of the original town still exist along Main Street and includes small shops along with Restaurants and Antique shops.

Columbia was established by the Rouse Company in the mid 1960s when it announced to the county it had secured land in the middle of the county to build a new city. The city would provide jobs, recreation, shopping, and various housing options along with commercial and industrial development. Columbia is considered a group of neighborhoods within villages and got its name from Columbia Pike that already existed.

Elkridge is located on the eastern tip of Howard County, Maryland and is one of the oldest settlements within Howard County. Elkridge was originally used for its shipping docks along the Patapsco River for shipments of tobacco and iron. Elkridge's original name was Elk Landing but when the shipping business dropped of, the port became known simply as Elkridge.

West Friendship developed slowly as the folks within Howard County moved west. Most early settlers were farmers and in the 1950s the farmers established the Howard County Fairground in West Friendship. Today West Friendship thrives with a mix of farm land and traditional urban development.
